Presidential Petition: Bobi Wine Lawyers to Bag Shs100bn from Foreign Donors

Ugandan lawyers representing NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine will bag $30m (about Shs110bn) for defending him in court to challenge the election of President Yoweri Museveni after January 14th general election.

According to inside sources, foreign donors have promised a big fortune (a tune of over Shs110bn) to Bobi Wine’s lawyers to help them pursue the case which was filed in the Supreme Court last week.

The lawyers who are behind Bobi Wine’s court case are; Busiro East MP Medard Sseggona, one of the managing partners of Lukwago & Co. Advocates, Bugiri Municipality MP   Asuman Basilwa, also a partner at Sewankambo & Co. Advocates, Muyizzi Mulindwa, one of the longest serving senior partners in Alaka & Co. Advocates, Mukono North MP Abdallah Kiwanuka, Anthony Wameli, the founder and managing partner of Wameli & Co. Advocates, Abubakar Ssenkajako, one of the young lawyers in the law firm of Lukwago & Co. Advocates and Suleiman Kakaire, a former journalist and current deputy spokesperson of the opposition Alliance for National Transformation party.

It is said that the Ugandan lawyers are to work closely under the supervision of Bobi Wine’s international lawyer, Robert Amsterdam who has been tirelessly mobilizing resources from other foreign countries to support Bobi Wine to oust the sitting government in Uganda.

Apparently, NUP with support from foreign donors most of whom are members of the LGBTI community have also hired the services of other international lawyers from Kenya, Malawi, South Africa and others. In Kenya, they have hired James Orengo, a well known human rights activist and a prominent politician who is the current senator for Siaya to work closely with Ugandan lawyers to win the court petition against Museveni.

Similarly, Bobi Wine and his NUP is also said to have so far spent $300m (over Shs1trillion) from foreign donors for the last 5months since buying the Political party. According to sources, whereas Bobi Wine had preferred a more violent “Plan B” after elections, he has to dance to the tunes of his donors who have advised him to use diplomacy and legalities to defeat Museveni. This explains why Bobi Wine “suspended” his much anticipated city riots that were supposed to take place last week. Subsequently, he met EU delegation at his Magere home about 3 days ago where they among other discussed how to pursue justice in a more diplomatic manner without any bloodshed. A few days to the planned riots, Bobi Wine sent his wife Barbie Itungo to US to join his family who were flown there a few days to elections.

Bobi Wine is also said to be backed by Joe Biden’s new government who is using an American investor George Soros and other philanthropists to fund most of the NUP activities.  Soros has been involved in many regime changes in the world especially in African countries. Biden is being accused of meddling into African affairs unlike his predecessor Donald Trump who remained silent on African politics.

The NUP strategy is being hatched by foreign donors who have resorted to using international media such BBC, CNN and Aljazeera to blackmail Ugandan government by portraying the government as violators of human right in the international scene. This is being done with alliance from a few local media houses whose journalists are being paid handsomely.

During campaigns, Bobi Wine was asked to hand over to the foreign donors a list of loyal journalists who would cover his campaigns. The journalists were being paid a per diem of $100 (about Shs370,000) to cover Bobi Wine’s campaigns. The money was being dished out by a lawyer and media activist Nicholas Opiyo who was in December arrested for alleged involvement in money laundering and other related malicious acts.

It is said that foreign donors wired billions of money through various accounts of Bobi Wine and his cronies. Nicholas Opiyo was in charge of Bobi Wine’s publicity and he was the one who was facilitating the journalists. This was being done in connivance with several NGOs operating in Uganda. It is not a surprise that President Museveni has asked Ministry of Finance to suspend operations of Democratic Governance Facility (DGF), one of the biggest donor funding foreign NGOs in Uganda.
