KCCA FC has booked a place in the 51st Stanbic Uganda Cup final after securing a 4–1 aggregate win over FUFA Big League side Kataka FC. The Kampala giants held Kataka to a 1–1 draw in the second leg played on Sunday at Mbale City Stadium, following their dominant 3–0 win in the first leg at MTN Omondi Stadium.
Brazilian forward Joao Gabriel Esteves Cardoso—known as Gabi—opened the scoring in the 47th minute, curling a superb effort into the top corner past Kataka goalkeeper Ronald Nsubuga, briefly silencing the home crowd.
Kataka responded in the 66th minute, when Michael Olinga fired home a first-time finish after latching onto a deflected long ball flicked on by Ali Sentamu.
Despite the spirited performance, Kataka couldn’t overturn the first-leg deficit, and KCCA marched into the final with a convincing 4–1 scoreline over the two legs.
They will now face fierce rivals Vipers SC on 31st May 2025 at the newly completed Kadiba Stadium in Lubaga. The final is a highly anticipated showdown—a repeat of the 2018 edition, where KCCA defeated Vipers in Bukedea.
KCCA will be chasing their 11th Uganda Cup title, having last won it in 2018. Their previous triumphs came in 1979, 1980, 1982, 1984, 1987, 1990, 1993, 2004, and 2017.
Vipers, already crowned champions of the 2024–25 StarTimes Uganda Premier League, are aiming for a domestic double. They’ve previously lifted the Uganda Cup three times—in 2015–16, 2019–20, and 2022–23.
The stage is set for a blockbuster final between two of Uganda’s football giants.
