MTN Uganda has begun a three-month, nationwide network upgrade aimed at boosting voice, data and mobile-money capacity ahead of its full 5G expansion. CEO Sylvia Mulinge says 35 % of the spend targets the Greater Central region, with roll-outs in the West and Southwest next.
The operator, now at 22 million subscribers, frames the upgrade as a pillar of its “Ambition 2025” strategy to dominate digital services and enterprise connectivity.
Impact for business: Smoother mobile-money rails and faster data speeds should cut downtime for SMEs and fintechs, but users may notice night-time outages as engineers swap equipment through July.
