Minister Ogwang Resorts to Sleeping in Makeshift Tent

Following the rampant cattle thefts and killings by the Karamojong to the people of Teso, the Minister of State Economic Monitoring (Office of the President) who doubles as the MP for Ngariam constituency, Peter Ogwang has pitched camp in Palam Sub County Katakwi district.

Ogwang said he cannot be in Kampala when his people are being killed by the Karamojong warriors.

“It will be useless for me to sit in a comfortable office in Kampala when my people are crying and their cattle being raided daily. This is why I decided to camp here in Palam sub county to understand why the Karamojong have continued destabilizing the peace of my people despite government interventions and deployments,” Ogwang said.

According to the findings, Minister Ogwang attributes the rampant cattle thefts to laxity of security men and women deployed in the different detaches in Katakwi district.

“You can imagine I went to the different detaches and I found some of the security officers engaged in charcoal business and not on duty.  This means that, when the Karamojong worriers come, the officers will not have time to engage them”‘ Ogwang said.

However, several challenges have been raised including lack of food, dry ratio, gumboots and others.

Ogwang said, he has fixed a meeting with the Prime Minister of Uganda to come up with a lasting solution to the Karamojong invasions. Ogwang has been sleeping in the tent for the last 3 days and is ready to stay even longer until this insecurity is sorted.
