Ngariam FDC Flagbearer Charles Okure Faces Eviction over Rent

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) flag bearer for Ngariam County, Katakwi district Charles Okure is embroiled in a “cat and mouse” game with his landlord, prompting a looming eviction notice from Court.

His landlord Charles Aide has dragged FDC’s Okure to Kira Chief Magistrates Court claiming that the MP hopeful has been reluctantly snoring, farting and even making babies in his self-contained apartment as if it is his great grandfather’s property for nearly 10 months without paying rent.

Okure has been living large in this luxurious apartment located in Mbalwa, Wakiso District, and as election pressure mounted, he also forgot to meet his tenancy obligation which according to the court petition has accumulated to Shs9.9million.

According to the landlord, Okure is obliged to pay monthly rent of Shs1.1m and he has not done so since April 2020 prompting him to run to Court.

“That the respondent [Charles Okure] has breached of his tenancy obligations by failing, neglecting or deliberately refusing to pay his rent since 10th April, 2020 and has continued with the breach to date,” reads the petition dated December 07, 2020.

The landlord now wants court authorization to apply for a certificate to levy distress for rent upon the respondent- Okure in an attempt to recover rent from him.

He added that all attempts to demand for rent have turned futile as Okure “now even stays out of the apartment for fear of the landlord or agents meeting him.”

Okure is not new to such fracas; recently while in Katakwi, Bodaboda riders held him “hostage” for 2 hours after he failed to pay them for the day’s activity during the visit of FDC presidential flag bearer Patrick Amuriat.

The landlord demands that court gives him a certificate of eviction against Okure so that he packs his suitcase out of his apartment. He (landlord) also demands for an order to prompt Okure clear his outstanding bills and that he restores the House to fit a purpose habitable standard. Court is expected to decide on the petition on 27th January 2021.
